Feeding our future with agritech

Canada’s agricultural sector is building resilience through research happening at facilities funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Advancements in agrifood from new plant varieties and precision farming techniques to innovative farming equipment and efficient food processing are building capacity for a crucial economic sector. This research supports a new generation of farmers and fishers in providing nutritious, fresh food and finding new markets for their products.

Researchers and agrifood producers are teaming up to help farms and fisheries adapt to rising costs, market shifts and climate change.

Drones improve growing efficiency with precise field mapping

To increase the productivity and profitability of Canadian farms, researchers at Olds College of Agriculture and Technology are field testing CFI-funded drones that use GPS and high resolution cameras to create precise maps to efficiently distribute fertilizer or survey crop damage after extreme weather so farmers and their insurers can arrive at accurate assessments.
