Les chaires de recherche du Canada reçoivent plus de six-millions de dollars pour financer l’infrastructure de pointe

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Grâce aux laboratoires, installations et équipements de pointe auxquels ils ont accès, les meilleurs chercheurs repoussent les limites du savoir pour réaliser de grandes découvertes et stimuler l’innovation. Quelque 47 titulaires de chaires de recherche du Canada dans 28 universités canadiennes recevront plus de six-millions de dollars de la Fondation canadienne pour l’innovation (FCI) pour appuyer le développement d’infrastructures de pointe nécessaires pour mener des travaux de recherche de calibre mondial.

Chercheuse à la McMaster University, Aimee Nelson recevra du financement lui permettant d’acquérir une infrastructure en neuroimagerie pour étudier l’incidence d’une saine condition cardiovasculaire sur l’activité cérébrale et la moelle épinière chez l’humain. Le financement accordé permettra également d’appuyer une gamme de projets de recherche qui visent notamment à comprendre et à améliorer la santé mentale dans les régions éloignées, à mettre au point des stratégies de diagnostic et de traitement pour certains types de cancers du sein qui ne donnent pas les résultats escomptés chez les patients et à examiner les effets de l’aérodynamique instable sur la performance de vol de même que les émissions et la sûreté des avions.

Ce financement de 6 452 687 dollars est le fruit d’un partenariat entre le Fonds des leaders John-R.-Evans de la FCI et le Programme des chaires de recherche du Canada. Le Fonds des leaders John-R.-Evans permet aux universités d’attirer le meilleur talent de divers secteurs de recherche en leur procurant l’infrastructure de pointe nécessaire pour voir grand et innover. Une somme additionnelle de 1 935 806 dollars est octroyée par l’entremise du Fonds d’exploitation des infrastructures, un mécanisme de financement de la FCI qui aide les établissements à assumer les couts d’exploitation et de maintenance de la nouvelle infrastructure.
