New visual and audio recording equipment aids Memorial social scientists
February 12, 2002

Social scientists in the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University of Newfoundland now have access to the kind of equipment that current field research demands. Digital still and video cameras, audio recorders, and a variety of software applications are all now at the Digital Research Centre for Qualitative Fieldwork.

The equipment is a boon to researchers like Project Leader, Dr. Sharon Roseman who uses it to enhance her ongoing ethnographic research in Galician communities in Atlantic Spain. Two other researchers Dr. Priscilla Renouf, and Dr. Trevor Bell have also used the equipment to create three-dimensional maps of archaeological sites and the ancient landscape of the Great Northern Peninsula of the island of Newfoundland.
