New Saskatchewan facility aims to reduce CO2 emissions
December 1, 2002

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are the target of the International Test Centre for Carbon Dioxide Capture at the University of Regina.

Headed by Dr. Paitoon Tontiwachwuthikul, the new facility will support research aimed at reducing the dangerous CO2 emissions produced when fossil fuels are burned. This type of research is widely recognized as crucial in helping Canada meet its international environmental commitments under agreements like the Kyoto Protocol.

The test centre has the potential to make Saskatchewan a world leader in CO2 capture technology as it develops ways of cleaning the gas from vehicular and industrial emissions, and discovers new industrial uses for waste products.
