As Interim Vice-President of Finance and Corporate Services, Isabelle Henrie is responsible for the accuracy and fairness of all the CFI’s financial statements, and for the accounting system from which they are derived. She ensures that transactions are authorized, assets are safeguarded, and proper accounting records are maintained. She also ensures that all awards given to institutions are tracked and monitored. In addition to finance, her portfolio includes human resources, information technology,
and administrative services.
Ms. Henrie joined the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) in December 2002 and has occupied various positions within the organization since then. She became Interim VP in January 2019. Before joining the CFI, she worked at Ernst & Young, an accounting firm, where she received her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and performed several financial audits.
In 1997, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in science with concentration in geology (summa cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. She then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1999 and a Specialized Graduate Diploma in accounting (D.E.S.S.) in 2000 from the Université du Québec en Outaouais. Ms. Henrie maintains a professional membership with the Ordre des CPA du Québec.
The finance team is responsible for the accounting, reporting and treasury functions of the organization, including the award finalization process and payments made to recipient institutions related to CFI awards.
Once funds are disbursed to an institution, the CFI has a responsibility to oversee how that money is spent. To do so, we have adopted a risk-based approach, which means that the nature and extent of our oversight activities are tailored to the risks facing each institution and project. The oversight activities performed by the finance team include monitoring visits, contribution audits and other cost reviews, financial reporting, and other ad hoc activities as required. These activities are often performed in collaboration with other business units at the CFI.
The finance team provides guidance to institutions in the implementation of their projects and with the administration of the funding received. It regularly shares good practices used by recipient institutions for the management of CFI funds. These activities help ensure CFI-funded projects are managed for success.
The corporate services team consists of three different business areas. Administration services is responsible for the procurement of goods and services, office space and facilities management, records and mail, building security and telecommunications.
Human resources provides a full range of people-services such as recruitment, salary and benefits administration, training and development, performance management, rewards and recognition, counselling, and health and safety.
Information services is responsible for the development and support of our customized online awards management system (called the CFI Awards Management System, or CAMS) as well as other business support tools and systems. They offer corporate-wide business analysis and project management services. Technology support for desktop computing, productivity software, networks, servers, wireless and remote connectivity is also provided.
