Starting October 19, 2023, the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) will be hosting a series of webinars that will inspire you to chart a career in environmental sustainability.

Attend one of our webinars featuring people who have built exciting careers in areas ranging from clean energy to remediation to wildlife conservation, and you will come away with a clearer sense of your future career. Plus, you could win an iPad Pro!

Future You Contest rules

The sponsor of this Contest is the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) (“Sponsor”).

Contest Period

Contestants are entered into the Contest upon attending at least one (1) webinar in the Sponsor’s series of two (2) webinars entitled, Future you: how to build a career in environmental sustainability, or by submitting at least one (1) completed survey, beginning October 19, 2023, at 2 p.m. (Eastern Time) (“Contest Start Date”) until the Contest closes December 8, 2023, at 11:59:59 p.m. (Eastern Time) (“Contest Closing Date”). Collectively, the time between the Contest Start Date and the Contest Closing Date is the “Contest Period.”

Dates of webinars:

  • Webinar #1 Thursday, October 19, 2023 @ 2 p.m. (Eastern Time)
  • Webinar #2 Tuesday, November 28, 2023 @ 2 p.m. (Eastern Time)

Participation details

No purchase is necessary to enter or win a prize in the Contest. A Contestant will be entered into the Contest if they meet the eligibility requirements and complete the following steps:

  • The Contestant attends at least one (1) of the two (2) webinars in the series. The Contestant will receive one (1) entry per webinar attended.
  • The Contestant provides a valid name and student email which they must also use to log in to the webinar.
  • Contestants will also receive an invitation to complete a survey about each webinar they attend. Upon submission of a completed survey, the Contestant will receive one (1) additional entry into the Contest.
  • Contestants may have their name and student email entered into the Contest up to two (2) times by attending each of the two (2) webinars and be additionally entered into the Contest upon completing and submitting a survey after each webinar. Therefore, by attending the two (2) webinars and by submitting the two (2) completed surveys, a Contestant may be entered into the Contest for a maximum of four (4) times.

A survey is considered complete if all required fields are completed and the survey is submitted to the Sponsor through the survey platform. Incomplete surveys, or surveys that are not received by the Contest Closing Date are invalid and will not be entered into the Contest.

Contestants may also enter the Contest by submitting an entry by mail that includes their name and a valid student email. Each entry must be submitted individually (that is, one (1) entry per mail entry), for up to four (4) entries total per Contestant. To participate by mail please send your entry to:

Mail-in entries must be postmarked no later than the Contest Closing Date and received by the Sponsor by no later than Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11:59:59 p.m. (Eastern Time).

Eligibility

To be eligible to win, Contestants must, at all times during the Contest Period up to and including the date of the random drawing: (i) be a resident of Canada and either a full-time or part-time student (undergraduate or graduate) studying at a postsecondary institution in Canada (ii) have reached the age of majority in their province/territory of residence; and (iii) be in compliance with these Contest rules and regulations.

Proof of enrolment in a postsecondary institution in Canada will be required after the winner is drawn and before awarding the prize to the potential winner. However, a request for proof of enrolment is not an indication of winning; it may be used to confirm a Contestant’s eligibility to take part in the Contest.

Prize

  1. One (1) prize is available to be won in this Contest. The random draw will take place on Monday January 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. (Eastern Time) at 55 Metcalfe Street, Suite 1100, Ottawa, ON K1P 6L5 Canada.
     
  2. The winner will be announced by the Sponsor on or about Friday, January 26, 2024.
     
  3. The winner will receive an 11-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi 128GB - Silver, valued at approximately $1,300 CAD. The prize is non-transferable nor redeemable for cash.
     
  4. The Sponsor is responsible for delivering the prize to the confirmed winner.
     
  5. The Sponsor assumes all costs associated with delivery of the prize to the confirmed winner.
     
  6. The potential winner will be required to answer, unaided, a time-limited mathematical skill testing question before they can be declared the confirmed winner and awarded the prize.
     
  7. If the potential winner refuses to accept the prize, for whatever reason, incorrectly answers the skill-testing question, is determined to be ineligible by the Sponsor, or withdraws participation in the Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right to revoke their prize and randomly award the prize to another eligible Contestant following the process described herein. This process will be followed until the prize has been awarded or there are no more eligible entrants, whichever occurs first.
     
  8. The chances of winning the prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received into the Contest before the Contest Closing Date.

Future You Contest

The Sponsor of this Contest is the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

Eligibility

  1. The Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (the “Sponsor”) Future You Contest (the “Contest”) is open to residents of Canada who, at all times during the Contest Period up to and including the date of the random drawing: (i) are students (undergraduate or graduate) enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian postsecondary institution and (ii) have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence, (the “Contestants” or “Contestant”).
  2. Employees of the Sponsor, including immediate family members and/or those living in the same household (whether legally related or not) are not eligible. For purposes of the Contest, immediate family members are defined as spouse, domestic partner, parents, legal guardians, in-laws, grandparents, siblings, children and grandchildren.

Contest Period and entry

No purchase is necessary to enter or win a prize in this Contest. To be entered into the Contest, Contestants must attend at least one Future You: how to build a career in environmental sustainability webinar between the Contest Start Date and the Contest Closing Date and provide a valid name and student email. Contestants will also receive an invitation to complete a survey about each webinar they attend. Upon submission of a completed survey, the Contestant will have their name and student email entered into the Contest again, increasing their chances to win. Additionally, Contestants may also enter the Contest by submitting an entry by mail that includes their name and a valid student email. The prize is non-transferable to another person nor redeemable for cash.

The Sponsor is responsible for delivering the prize to the confirmed winner. The Sponsor assumes all costs associated with delivery of the prize to the confirmed winner.

If the potential winner cannot be contacted, refuses to accept the prize, for whatever reason, incorrectly answers the skill-testing question, is otherwise determined to be ineligible by the Sponsor, or withdraws participation in the Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right to randomly select another eligible Contestant.

The chances of winning the prize depend on the total number of eligible participants entered into the Contest before the Contest Closing Date.

Random selection process

All Contestants who have provided a valid name and student email will be entered into the Future You Contest. Additionally, all Contestants that have submitted a completed survey will also be entered into the Contest.

A potential winner will be randomly selected from the above-mentioned pool of Contestants.

The random selection will be witnessed by the Sponsor’s Vice President of Finance and Corporate Services as well as the Vice President of External Relations and Communications.

If the potential winner cannot be contacted, declines the prize, incorrectly answers the skill-testing question, or is otherwise determined to be ineligible by the Sponsor, the process described above will be repeated until a confirmed winner is selected, or there are no more Contestants, whichever occurs first.

Contestant criteria

  • Contestants must adhere to the eligibility requirements set forth herein and provide a name and student email to be entered into the Contest. A valid name is a first or last name or both found on an official piece of government-issued identification (ID) such as a driver’s license or health card. A valid student email is defined as an active email account associated to a postsecondary institution in Canada that is active and can receive email communications. This email will be used to contact the potential winner of the Contest.
  • Contestants are eligible if at the time of entry they: (i) are a resident of Canada and either a full-time or part-time student (undergraduate or graduate) studying at a postsecondary institution in Canada (ii) have reached the age of majority in their province/territory of residence; and (iii) are in compliance with these Contest rules and regulations.

Winner

The potential winner will be contacted by the Sponsor during the week of January 15, 2024 at the valid student email they provided to enter the Contest. The winner will be publicly announced by the Sponsor on or about January 26, 2024. Once a potential winner is contacted, they will be informed of the procedure to follow to receive the prize, including answering a skill-testing question. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, declines the prize, incorrectly answers the skill-testing question, withdraws from the Contest or is otherwise determined to be ineligible by the Sponsor, the prize will be awarded to another randomly selected Contestant in accordance with these Contest rules and regulations.

General

Only the potential winner will be contacted by the Sponsor.

Before collecting a prize, and within five (5) calendar days of being notified that they have been selected, any potential winner will be required to provide consent and proof of enrolment in a postsecondary institution in Canada, among other things, compliance with these Contest rules and regulations; acceptance of the prize as awarded, and consent that their personal information, such as name, likeness, institution of enrolment and/or prize information, may be used, without further compensation or notice, in any publication or promotional material, by the Sponsor, for the sole purposes of promoting the Contest.

The prize must be accepted as awarded, without substitution; is not transferrable or convertible to cash; and is not for resale.

The name of confirmed winner will be announced on or about Friday, January 26, 2024 via the Sponsor’s social media accounts (i.e., Twitter and Facebook) and other means, including the Sponsor’s website, Innovation.ca. 

The Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest for any reason. Any notification of such action may be posted online on the Sponsor’s website and/or via the Sponsor’s social media accounts, and Contestants are encouraged to periodically check for such notifications.

The Sponsor reserves the right to change Contest rules and regulations, including, if necessary, to comply with any applicable law. Any notification of such action may be posted online on the Sponsor’s website and/or via the Sponsor’s social media accounts, and Contestants are encouraged to periodically check for such notifications.

By entering this Contest, Contestants agree to abide by these Contest rules and regulations and acknowledge that the Sponsor shall not be responsible for any damages, costs, demands, claims or losses of any kind incurred by any Contestant as a result of participation in this Contest.

This Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Ontario and any applicable federal laws. These rules and regulations govern all aspects of the Contest and are binding on all Contestants.

The Sponsor is not responsible for survey submissions that are invalid, delayed, or incomplete. Any Contestant email provided that is inactive or not of a valid email address format will be ineligible.

The Sponsor is not responsible for telephone, computer or network malfunction or error (whether technical or human in nature), communication disruption or other forces beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsor.

Personal information

Any personal information collected in order to administer the Contest is under the control of the Sponsor and will be managed in accordance with the Privacy Act. Information collected for the purposes of administering the Contest may be subject to disclosure in accordance with the Access to Information Act. Personal information of the confirmed winner, such as name, likeness, institution of enrolment and/or prize information may be used, without compensation, in any publication or promotional material by the Sponsor for the sole purposes of promoting the Contest, administering the Contest and awarding the prize.
