Briefs to the House of Commons and Senate Committees

Almost every year, the CFI is invited to appear in front of a House of Commons or Senate Committee. The documents we presented at these meetings, as well as some of our presentation notes, are found below, sorted by year they were submitted. In most instances, the year of submission pertains to the government consultations in preparation for the Federal Budget of the subsequent year.

For example, under 2011, you will find documents prepared in that year, which pertain to the pre-budget consultations 2011 to inform the 2012 Federal Budget.

In light of the launch of the Government of Canada’s review of federal support for fundamental science, we did not make a submission in 2016.

Since a federal election was declared in August 2015, there were no submissions invited that year.

The CFI also made no submissions in 2012 or 2007.

No submission was made by the CFI in 2016 in light of the Government of Canada’s launch of the review of federal support for fundamental science. The review is to assess the program machinery currently in place to support science and scientists in Canada. The scope of the review includes the three granting councils along with certain federally funded organizations such as the CFI.

No submissions were invited in 2015 in light of the October 2015 federal election.

In August 2014, CFI and the three federal granting agencies submitted a brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance as part of the pre-Budget consultations 2014.
