Spectroscopy is the science
that deals with the examination and analysis of spectra, with the use of a spectroscope
or a spectrometer. The simplest spectroscope is an instrument used to obtain and
examine the spectrum of visible light by the passage of visible light through
a prism. In most spectroscopy, one energy of light, or a range of energies of
light (e.g., Microwave, Infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-rays, or gamma rays),
impinge on a sample and the amount of light absorbed at each energy is recorded.
