Biography - Liz Harrison
Liz Harrison is Professor and Associate Dean at the University of Saskatchewan in the School of Physical Therapy, College of Medicine. Her career has spanned the clinical, academic, and research worlds. She received her physical therapy degrees and post-graduate qualifications from 1976 to 1983; her MSc in 1983, and PhD in 1994. Her clinical research and publications are primarily focused on musculo-skeletal health, health care interventions and outcomes, and health promotion initiatives in chronic disease. Clinically she has worked with a variety of patient populations, professionals, and students in delivering health care services in acute care, rehabilitation settings, and private practice. Her specialist qualification as a Sports Physical Therapist, has also allowed her to work with athletes from grassroots to elite levels for more than 25 years.
Liz has worked with interdisciplinary research teams involving partnerships with various community organizations, government agencies, and health authorities. She was Chair of the Health Services Utilization and Research Commission (1998-2003) and inaugural Chair of the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (2003-2006). She has over 20 years of experience as a reviewer for research grants and journals, and has served on many professional and university boards and committees. Since 2005 she has worked collaboratively with provincial, national, and international colleagues in advancing best practices for interprofessional and client/patient centred practice. From 2000 to 2007 she served as member and then Chair of the International Scientific Committee for the World Confederation of Physical Therapy. In 2007 she was awarded the Enid Graham Memorial Lecture Award, the most prestigious award from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for contributions to the profession for her activities in research, teaching, professional practice, and administration.
