Green innovation: A sign of positive change
April 24, 2009

Green innovation is surrounded by so many buzz words social responsibility, sustainable production, fair trading, energy efficiency and local provenance. These terms are no longer only government agenda items; they are right in front of you, for immediate action in your community.

At the grassroots level for an innovator or entrepreneur, it is more likely to see question marks in their eyes than dollar signs. Questions on how a small or medium-sized business might contribute and benefit from positive environmental action are common. “How can I do my part?” is no longer lip service; it is a dedicated offering, each to do their own part to make a positive change.

By increasing your awareness and understanding of environmental issues and their economic and social ramifications, you will be better equipped to do your part to help the environment. You can begin by protecting your IP assets that support environmentally sound objectives, championing preventative and green technology and practices.

The key to successfully implementing a green strategy is to adopt a comprehensive approach that links green innovation to your business strategy. Greening operations have become a fundamental business brand principle and will sustain future business growth and success.

World Intellectual Property Day, April 26, is an annual celebration linking intellectual property and creativity. It provides the Canadian Intellectual Property Office the opportunity to celebrate and promote innovation and economic growth.
