Canada’s synchrotron research installation, a national high-performance computing platform, and a world-class underground neutrino and dark matter physics laboratory are all receiving funding from CFI’s Major Science Initiatives fund.

BURNABY, B.C., January 15, 2013 — British Columbia’s research-intensive universities are coming together to create a global hub for materials science and engineering. Simon Fraser University, the University of Victoria, the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology have received $7.7 million in funding from the Canada Foundation of Innovation to create the Prometheus Project — a research hub for materials science and engineering innovation and commercialization.

Isabelle Peretz, Canada Research Chair in neurocognition of music and co-director of BRAMS, a Montréal-based research lab that studies how the brain reacts to music and sound, says that some of these feelings may actually be instinctual.

Calgary, Alta. – November 6 – In data presented today at the Canadian Science Policy Conference in Calgary, Alta., Janice Keefe, Director of the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, pointed to the new and expanding role that informal caregivers have in supporting seniors.

According to Keefe, the availability of children to act as caregivers is declining over the long term and aging baby boomers are going to need new ways to cope.
