Former President and CEO of the CFI Receives the Walter Hitschfeld Award

QUEBEC, May 3, 2004—Dr.

David Strangway, former President and CEO of the Canada Foundation for

Innovation (CFI) was presented today with the Walter Hitschfeld Award

from the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators

(CAURA).

“Dr. Strangway’s outstanding commitment to the

enhancement of university-based research in Canada has been a lifelong

pursuit,” said Dr. John Evans, Chair of the Board of Directors of the

CFI. “On behalf of everyone at the CFI, I want to congratulate Dr.

Strangway on being selected for this award.”

The award was

presented to Dr. Strangway during the CAURA Annual General Meeting held

in Quebec City. Founded in 1971, CAURA is a national association of

individuals committed to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of

research administration at Canadian universities and other

post-secondary institutions. The award was named in memory of Walter

Hitschfeld, a founding member of CAURA, in recognition of his dedicated

and outstanding contribution to the organization. The annual award is

available to an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional

dedication to the enhancement of university-based research in Canada.

“The

executive committee as well as members of CAURA are pleased to honour

Dr. Strangway with this award,” said Daniel Lefebvre, President of the

CAURA Executive Committee. “His work with the CFI is just one example

of the dedication he’s shown throughout his illustrious career when it

comes to advancing research in Canada.”

The Canada

Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is an independent corporation created

in 1997 by the Government of Canada to fund research infrastructure.

The CFI’s mandate is to strengthen the ability of Canadian

universities, colleges, research hospitals, and other non-profit

institutions to carry out world-class research and technology

development that will benefit Canadians.
