OTTAWA, Ontario - June 22, 2010 — The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) welcomes the appointment of Dr. Kevin P. D. Smith as the new Chair of its Board of Directors. Dr. Smith succeeds interim Chair Dr. Elizabeth Cannon who replaced Dr. William C. Leggett in January 2010.

In order to shed light on the relationship of Canada’s youth to science, CFI commissioned Ipsos Reid to conduct a Youth Science Monitor that would examine scientific literacy, understanding of research, the importance of scientific education, and information needs and trust with regard to science amongst Canadian youth. This information will help to inform policy makers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders as they work to encourage scientific advancement in Canada.

OTTAWA, Ontario— The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, was joined today by Dr. Eliot Phillipson, President and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), to announce $27.87 million in support of 118 projects in 32 Canadian research institutions. This investment, made under the CFI’s Leaders Opportunity Fund (LOF), will benefit the work of 156 of the country’s brightest minds.

OTTAWA, April 15, 2010 — Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, Interim Board Chair of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gilles G. Patry as the fourth President and CEO of the CFI (see biography below). Dr. Patry succeeds the current President and CEO, Dr. Eliot A. Phillipson, who announced last year that he would be stepping down on June 30, 2010.

The Project Progress Report form for 2009-2010 will be accessible online April 7th. The deadline for the submission of the Project Progress Reports is June 30, 2010. The Institutional Report form for 2009-2010 will be accessible online within a few weeks.  The deadline for the submission of the Institutional Reports is July 31, 2010.
