OTTAWA, APRIL 18, 2006—The biggest science experiment in history is currently underway at the world-famous CERN labs in Switzerland, and Canada is poised to play a critical role in its success. Thanks to a $10.5 million investment announced today by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), an ultra-sophisticated computing facility—the ATLAS Data Centre—will be created to support the ATLAS project at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
The institutional and project progress report forms are now available on our website through the CFI Online section and must be prepared and submitted electronically. The deadline for submission is June 15, 2006.
For the 2006 analysis, we are requesting the annual institutional and project reports for all projects funded under any CFI program that were finalized:
MONTREAL, March 27, 2006—Canada’s reputation as a destination of choice for the world’s top researchers was further enhanced today when the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) announced the inaugural recipients of its new Leaders Opportunity Fund (LOF) program. Dr. Eliot Phillipson, President and CEO of the CFI, was joined by the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry, to announce the $23.6 million investment that will benefit 145 researchers at 35 institutions from coast to coast.

An agreement between Industry Canada and provincial government representatives was reached last fall on the first Research Hospital Fund (RHF) competition. Part of this agreement was to have further discussion on the future of the RHF.
