OTTAWA, December 17, 1997 - Dr. John R. Evans, Chair of the Canada Foundation for Innovation, today announced the passing of Dr. Keith J. Brimacombe, President and CEO of the organization, following a heart attack in Vancouver on December 16, 1997. 

December 9, 1997

OTTAWA, December 9, 1997- Dr. Keith Brimacombe, President and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) today announced the launch of a national competition for funding infrastructure projects in Canadian research institutions. The guidelines and selection criteria released today in the document entitled "Competition Announcement" were approved at the inaugural meeting of the CFI Board of Directors on December 1, 1997.

November 18, 1997

OTTAWA, November 18, 1997- The Honourable John Manley, Minister of Industry, and Dr. John Evans, Chair of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), today announced the appointment of 14 prominent Canadians to the CFI’s Board of Directors. These appointments, which are effective immediately, will allow the Foundation to launch national programs aimed at strengthening Canada’s research capability by investing in infrastructure projects in research institutions.

Ottawa, September 17, 1997-Dr. John Evans, Chair of the Canada Foundation for Innovation, today announced the appointments of Dr. Keith Brimacombe as President and CEO, and of Dr. Denis Gagnon as Senior Vice President of the corporation. He also announced that nine prominent Canadians have been appointed members of the Foundation.

OTTAWA, September 3, 1997 — The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) announced today the launch of a national consultation on proposed programs aimed at improving research infrastructure in Canadian research institutions. This consultation builds upon extensive informal dialogue with stakeholders over the last several months. 

July 31, 1997

OTTAWA, July 31, 1997 - Industry Minister John Manley today announced the appointment of the first group of members to the Canada Foundation for Innovation. These six prominent Canadians are Dr. Martha Piper, Dr. Peter J. Nicholson, Dr. Angus A. Bruneau, Dr. Gilles Cloutier, Ms.Dorothy J. Lamont and Mr. Robert Giroux. Dr. John Evans was appointed Chair of the Foundation in February 1997.
