Biography - Sheila A. Brown
Dr. Sheila Brown is owner and President of HartsHill Educational Consulting Ltd., in Bedford, Nova Scotia, which offers strategic advice, facilitation and professional development services to higher education institutions. In 2012 she retired as the Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Public Affairs (CCEPA), a joint initiative between Halifax-based Saint Mary’s University and the Atlantic School of Theology (AST) that provides an arena for critical thinking, public discussion and research into current ethical challenges in society. From 1996 to 2006, she was the President and Vice-Chancellor of Mount Saint Vincent University, as well as a Professor of Business and was named President Emerita in the Fall of 2012. Dr. Brown remains connected to academia as a Senior Strategic Advisor to the Manager of the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) at the University of Manitoba and is also an instructor in several CHERD programs. She has been honoured by the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as one of the “Top 50 over 50,” and has also received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Distinguished Member Award of the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education. She was selected five times as one of Atlantic Business magazine’s “Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada,” and in 2005 was one of the first four inductees into the “Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada Hall of Fame.” An Honours graduate of Cambridge University, Dr. Brown also holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Alberta. After completing her doctorate in the area of consumer behaviour, she joined the Faculty of Business at Alberta and then went on to hold faculty and administrative positions in three other Canadian universities.
