OTTAWA, October 8, 2013 – With the Thanksgiving long weekend only days away, many people are looking forward to the time-honoured family meal: mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce orbiting a roasted turkey. CFI-funded researchers are adding a garnish of science to the feast by explaining how our minds and bodies process the traditional glut of food and drink.

OTTAWA, September 13, 2013 - Dr. Kevin P. D. Smith, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Directors — Ms. Margaret Bloodworth and Dr. Ingrid Pickering.

This fall, the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) plans to launch a new online resource that will make it easier for businesses to connect with research facilities at universities, colleges and research hospitals across Canada to establish research partnerships and collaborations.

Through this new CFI laboratory and facility listing, businesses and other organizations seeking help with their research and innovation needs will find specialized facilities, equipment and expertise available right in their backyard — or elsewhere in Canada — in virtually every discipline.

Through the 2012 Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada has provided the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) with $ 500 million in support of its core activities. In addition, the 2013 Economic Action Plan announced that $225 million of unallocated interest income generated by the CFI will be committed to “advanced research infrastructure priorities and sustaining the long-term operations of the Foundation”.

The Canada Foundation for innovation (CFI) is pleased to announce its participation in the 11th College and Community Innovation Program - Innovation Enhancement (CCI-IE) Grants Competition managed by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) in collaboration with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). This joint initiative will foster partnerships between colleges and the private sector that will lead to business innovation locally, regionally and nationally.

The Project Progress Report form for 2012-2013 is now accessible online. The deadline for indicating operational status, and for submitting Project Progress Reports, is June 30, 2013. Institutions are no longer required to complete an Institutional Report.

Ottawa, ON April 16, 2013 La Cité collégiale has become a leader in the field of applied research, especially with its biotransformation research centre and its biotechnology undergraduate program. The college will now be able to offer its experts and students a more modern working and learning environment thanks to a grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
