Biography - Manon Harvey
Since the Canada Foundation for Innovation was first formed, Ms. Manon Harvey has been responsible for ensuring the integrity of all aspects of the Foundation's financial dealings, and for managing the sum of $5 billion that has been entrusted to the CFI by the Government of Canada.
As Vice-President of Finance and Corporate Services, Ms. Harvey is responsible for the accuracy and fairness of all the CFI's financial statements, and for the accounting system from which they are derived. She ensures that transactions are authorized, assets are safeguarded, and proper accounting records are maintained. She also ensures that all awards given to institutions are tracked and monitored. In addition to Finance, her portfolio includes Human Resources, Information Technology, and Administrative Services. Ms. Harvey is an Officer of the CFI Board of Directors, and serves as the Secretary and Treasurer.
Before joining the CFI, Ms. Harvey served as Director of Finance for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). In this position, she managed all aspects of CHEO's financial and accounting services from 1990 to 1995; was responsible for implementing the hospital's computerized financial applications; and increased productivity through job re-engineering and improvements in accounting methods. From 1986 to 1990, she was CHEO's Controller. She has also held positions at a number of private firms in the financial services sector.
Ms. Harvey maintains professional memberships and associations with a number of organizations—including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. She is currently both a member of the Board of Directors, as well as the Chair of the Audit Committee, for Hydro Ottawa.
In 1982, Ms. Harvey obtained her Bachelor of Commerce (summa cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. She received her CA designation while articling with Clarkson Gordon from 1982 to 1986. In addition to Chartered Accountant designations in both Ontario and Quebec, she has a Certificate in Management Information Systems from the Université du Québec à Hull, and has held Mutual Funds and Life Insurance licences in Ontario and Quebec.She obtained her ICD.D designation in 2008, graduating from the Directors Education Program offered by the Institute of Corporate Directors at McGill University.
