Biography - Roland Hosein

Dr. Roland Hosein, Vice-President, Environment, Health and Safety, GE Canada, is a native of Trinidad with BSc and MSc degrees from the University of London and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Western Ontario. He conducted research on the epidemiology of lung diseases at Yale University (1972), and later led a team in Occupational Health for the Government of Alberta (1975).

Dr. Hosein started the graduate program in Occupational and Environmental Health with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (1978) and remains an Associate Professor. He has edited and co-edited several major studies on occupational and environmental health hazards, and has received the Canadian Standards Association’s John Jenkins Award and the Occupational Hygiene Association of Ontario’s Hugh Nelson Award.

In his role as VP at GE Canada, Dr. Hosein has corporate responsibility for health and environment for Canada and support for Latin America and India. He serves on the Board of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, chairs the Board of the Institute for Work and Health, and sits on the expert panel on Innovation at the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. He is a member of the Canadian Strategy on Cancer Control, and is also on the Ontario Steering Committee for the Occupational Cancer Research Centre.

Dr. Hosein is involved in a number of charitable projects, including the funding of a technology wing of his primary school in his native Trinidad.
